SEEM Award Report 2022

SEEM National Energy Management Awards (SNEMA) 2022 took place on September 21, 2023, at the Indian Islamic Cultural Centre, New Delhi. The event was attended by numerous energy professionals from diverse sectors. Dr. Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director-General of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Special Guests included Mr. K. K. Chakarvarti, Former Energy Economist, and Mr. S.P. Garnaik, Head Energy Efficiency and Green Finance Specialist at the Global Green Growth Institute. Awards in Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Star Performance categories were presented to deserving winners across various sectors, industries, facilities, corporates, and individuals, chosen by a national jury appointed by SEEM. This marked the 8th edition of SNEMA, with a significant increase in the number of awardees compared to previous years, receiving over 200+ nominations for SNEMA 2022.

The program commenced around 2:00 pm with a welcoming address by Mr. G. Krishnakumar, General Secretary of SEEM. Mr. Jayakumar Nair, President of SEEM, delivered the presidential address. Ms. Gayatri Nair, Jury Chairman of SEEM Awards, explained the selection process and emphasized the commitment to recognizing quality and merit. Dr. Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director-General of BEE, inaugurated the event by planting a sapling alongside other dignitaries and felicitated the function.

In addition to SNEMA, our new project, the De-carbonization India Alliance (DIA), was successfully launched with the unveiling of a banner and the lighting of the dais. This launch featured distinguished individuals, including Mr. Rohit Kumar, Secretary-General of the Carbon Markets Association of India; Mr. Vivek Agarwal, Chief Operating Officer of Godawari Power and Ispat Limited; Shri. S.P. Garnaik, Regional Lead at the Global Green Growth Initiative; Mr. Hari Balasubramanian, Business Development Director at Janitza electronics GmbH; Mr. Shyam Raveendran, Managing Director of Sonel India Private Limited; Ms. Vinuta Gopal-Asar; Mr. Balwant Joshi of Idam Infrastructure; Mr. K.K. Chakarvarti of Idam Infrastructure; Mr. Raj Kapoor, Founder of India Blockchain Alliance; Mr. Yogesh Tadkar, President of ISHRAE; Mr. Mayur Karmarkar of the International Copper Association; and Mr. Rakesh Agarwal, a climate leader. This project aims to communicate widely and empower diverse initiatives, from small-scale to large-scale, in India’s pursuit of the ambitious goal of achieving NetZero emissions by 2070 or earlier.

Furthermore, the second initiative, ‘Electrify Safely,’ was launched with the unveiling of the cover page of the National Electrical Code 2023. The initiative involved Mr. Jayakumar Nair, SEEM National President; Mr. G. Krishnakumar, General Secretary of SEEM; Mr. Hari Balasubramanian, Business Development Director at Janitza electronics GmbH; Mr. Shyam Raveendran, Managing Director of Sonel India Private Limited; Mr. Mayur Karmarkar of the International Copper Association; Mr. Amol Kalsekar of International Copper Association India; Mr. Vasim Ahmed, Senior Manager – North at Bender India; Mr. Gyanendra Saxena, SEEM National Executive Member of Madhya Pradesh Chapter; and Mr. Benet George, Secretary of SEEM Karnataka Chapter. This initiative focuses on raising awareness and promoting the adoption of NEC 2023 across India, with collaboration among industry stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and educational institutions, aiming to establish a culture of electrical safety benefiting individuals and organizations.

Moreover, our “Energy Manager” Magazine was relaunched during the award ceremony, with Shri. S.P. Garnaik, Regional Lead at the Global Green Growth Initiative, presenting the magazine to the Chief Guest, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Deputy Director-General of BEE.
